Gilbert Ray Campground Possible GTG - February 14-20

I am hesitant to suggest this because you cannot make reservations at this campground near Tucson. It is first-come, first-served, but the entire campground is that way, so the trick is to get there first thing in the morning. But then again, everybody is in the same situation. I have been there twice and did not have a problem. I am planning on staying nearby at Piccachio Peak and driving in first thing-- like 9 am. Cost is $20 per night for electric hookups.

Beth, what do you think of this idea??? I am asking because you worked there. It is very close to Old Tucson and the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum. Lots of other things to do in Tucson.

Those coming: Beth, Lyn, and me, so far.

I'll probably join you on the 18th for a few days. I'm working the first days.

Yes the cg should fill up those days but we told only people in big rigs to arrive between 9 and 10... Everyone else we recommended between 10 and noon. You cannot pick your own site before the office opens (9 am) without risking losing it ... So coming before 9 makes no sense. Check out is 11, and anyone in a site can re-up... And you can't assume if there's no slip it's available, as many bring their previous slip down to pay another night.

Without going into more detail, it's unusual for anyone but big rigs to have a problem before noon/1 pm.

I'll definitely join you for the 2nd half and probably stay extra days... As that'll be my week off.

Sounds great! Is my 32' Class C without a toad a "big rig"? Last time I was there, I rode my bike to the Desert Museum, but then my vertigo kicked in and even had to call the registration booth to ask if someone could stop by to collect my check for two more days as I could not walk without falling because of vertigo! That was two years ago. Should be some cactus in bloom also.

It doesn't hurt to be there early (by 9 or 10). Just realize sometimes you don't get a site until after the office knows for sure which are available. But they take people in the order they came in. There are, (on an average day) 30 to 40 sites that turn over. I think the earliest we filled up last year was 1 pm... Normally it was between 4 and 6 pm.

A Loop is most popular. I like C loop the best.

If no one is there with a car, I'll take my rv to the Desert Museum for us. We all know how much I love that place!

I rode my bike there last time, but I admit the road is a tad narrow! I love that place also, and have gone there every time I get to Tucson. Might even go twice!

It’s a little late in the month for me. Wish this was a little closer to the end of Quartzsite. I probably can’t make these dates. Darn!!

Sandi, do you have anything you would like to do after Q? I have a five day rally until the 30th, but then am free until Feb 14th. Check Judyjb's post on Willow Beach...would you be interested? Anyone else? lyn

Lyn, I corrected the name to Willow Beach Marina and posted a new GTG for that place.

We’ll be in Arizona during that time & plan to stop by. I’ll have DH with me & he “prefers” full hookups, so we’ll be staying at a CG nearby. Looking forward to seeing you again, Judy, and meeting others who are able that make it.

Eileen, if you can talk him into it, there isn't a more scenic cg in Tucson imo, ... But if you can't, check out Justin's Diamond J... Still scenic and unless the rates have increased, better than many.

And couldn't you at least stay for one night? Even with two of you, you won't fill up tanks.
