Morning all. The clock is ticking on 2017. In 48 hours we will be in a New Year with an empty page to write another chapter in our lives on. Any ody making any New Years Resolutions?
The cold continues here as well as other parts of the country. Layering when going out is the word here. Hasn’t stopped people from enjoying the outdoors, but is limiting the amount of time doing it. The dogs and I are still doing our daily walks, just shorter. Good time for in house projects. Winds have been light, so that’s been good.
Lyn, you asked about property taxes here. They vary widely from place to place. Our taxes are called millages and are assesed as “mills”. They are based on your homes assesed value. For example say at $1 for each mill, a $ 125,000 home would be $1250 in taxes. But each city, township, county has different assesements of course as well as additional milages for various services or temporary funding for projects. Those are voter approved millages which last for the time period requested for and must be put up for renewal each time they expire. We also have a Homestead Property tax exemption which means that your primary residence is exempted from local school taxes up to 18 mills. If you own a second home or property, that is not exempted and must pay the full millage. Our assessed value cannot rise any higher than the CPI or 5%. We pay taxes twice a year here, which is nice in that part is paid in Feb. and the other part in Sept., so you don’t get the whole bill at once.
Off to the Farmers Market for eggs this morning p,us couple of errands. Then putter in the house. Have a jigsaw puzzle started too. So time to get a move on here. Have a nice day everyone.
