I wish, but we will be making our way up the east coast in April.

There is a tour boat out of Depoe Bay that charges seniors $25 (at this time) for a two hour tour. Should be fun. Probably stay at Devil's Lake state park campground in Lincoln City or Beverly Beach state park.

Not sure what route I'll take up to Alaska. And April might be too early, but if I can, will come where ever. Since I'll be watching whales all summer probably wouldn't do the boat, tho.

I'd be there Marda, except it's a long run from Austin! Maybe next time!

Hi Marda: I might be interested. It's still pretty far off, but sure sounds like fun. I'll keep it in mind as I plan what I'm going to do next year.

There is the aquarium at Newport or searching the beach at Lincoln City for the glass balls that are hidden for people to find if you don't want to go to sea :D

Laura, do you know anything about Fogarty Creek RV park in Depoe Bay?

Marda, I just looked at rv park reviews - and even the good reviews would keep me away - pull throughs that you have to parallel park to get into? Tight maneuvering? Hard to get beach access. I'd keep looking.

I have on my list to check out South Beach State Park - someday :)

Marda,
While I know I've driven through almost every campground on the central coast, I just don't remember this one. I do remember that there aren't too many nice ones in the Lincoln City/Depoe Bay area. Beverly Beach is probably the nicest one but even then, its not high on my list for a place to go camping. I know my parents loved Beachside SP in Waldport. It opens the middle of March. Its small (30ft limit and not a lot of spots) but its on the west side of the highway so easy to get to the beach. Not much else in the area of the park so take everything you will need with you or you'll have to unhook to drive to the store.

I read the same reviews Beth did on Fogarty Creek and have to agree that it doesn't sound very promising.

Good luck in your search...

Have decided on doing the trip in May for my birthday and have reserved a spot at Beverly Beach State Park May 8th for 6 nights.
There is easy access to the beach and nature trails.
