Not only that, but campsites are paved, so no dust and dirt, and there is a 5.2 mile paved bike or hiking trail. I prefer paved bike trails because I am too afraid of falling on gravel or dirt trails! I also like that they have a variety of types of campsites. The no-hookup sites are closer to the lake and the water and electric sites are in the middle. I'm looking forward to trying this place out.

I deleted it Lyn when I thought you were not going to see my post. It wasn't important. Safe travels and have fun on your current trip.

Alice, I am going to be there August 6-19, but Sandi and Lyn are coming toward the end. School starts in a lot of districts in California on the 14th, so it will be quieter then.

I will definitely keep this in mind. Not sure where I will be in August but will be heading that way sometime around then. Will know more in another month...

I stayed overnight at Merrill Campground, a couple of weeks ago (July 1).

It is indeed a very lovely campground - perhaps the nicest I have ever visited (the paved back-in sites were especially nice, no tracking dirt into my van). Restrooms, but no showers, in the campground. It is a large campground, with the sites widely spaced in a very pretty forested setting, so that one is not cheek-by-jowl with one's neighbors. Although the campground was completely full when I was there (4th July weekend), including lots of children and dogs, it was mostly peaceful and quiet.

Quite nice.

However, it was very warm when I was there. Mid to upper 90's during the day, cooler at night (although I left my ac running all night).

I have lived in Northern California for nearly 40 years (Eagle Lake is only a couple of hours drive from me) and we have been experiencing a punishing, and unrelenting, heat wave of the sort that I do not ever remember in all of my 40 years in Northern California. It was 110 - 112 every day here at my house for about eight days (only cooling to the upper 80's at night). Since then it has cooled somewhat, with temps topping out at about 100 +/-, each day for the past week.

Keep in mind that August is often the warmest month here. The difference in temps between the northern central valley where I live, and Eagle Lake is only about 7 or 8 degrees (cooler at the lake, only because of the altitude). Saturday here is predicted to warm up again, by several degrees, from the current 100's.

Everyone should be sure their AC is in working order.

As a full-timer, I have to be somewhere, and even with the heat, it is better there than a lot of other nearby places, so I will be going as scheduled. My AC is working nicely, but I am glad I am not staying in a tent or popup without AC!

Here is the weather posted by the National Forest Service for this campground: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... Wr_L1GQypo
