Silver Springs, FL Mini gtg, Jan. 6-7

Irmi, Tina, CArol, and I visited JudyJB at Silver Springs SP yesterday. Judy fixed lunch for all of us.

After lunch we hiked the River Trail.

Today we will be back to kayak the river. CArol and Judy have been persuaded to try it out. Irmi was game too, but had a previous commitment.

Nice you could have a mini gtg. Had to laugh; some of you look cold and Judy is wearing shorts.
Know you will have fun on the river today.

It was a bit chilly in the morning, but really more than warm enough by the time we took our hike. One good reason for wearing long pants and long sleeves were the hoards of mosquitos that attacked us. I did not even bring any repellant and should have! 8-)

They wore me out kayaking today. Stay tuned for pictures. You can launch from here, but it is easier to launch from the spring itself where the glass-bottom boat tours are, which is upstream. Big problem from this site above is that it is a half-mile walk to the parking lot, so really not an easy place to launch or pull out because you would have to carry everything. Did have porta-potty here, though!

Hope you warned the rangers about this dangerous group. Wish I was up there with you...but enjoying south Florida too.

I was worried about getting in and out, so I got in and the rental guy pushed me off!

Okay. Call me a wimp, but there is absolutely no way in heaven that I would get into the water with those big reptiles anywhere close! It seems ... crazy!! I look at those things and think of Jaws, but in a river ... UGH!!

I thought the same thing, Azusateach, but those were the only two alligators we saw. One was too small to eat even the big fish in the river. The other did not even open his eyes as we went by.

I am very thankful to Liz and Tina for encouraging me to do this as I had never benn in a kayak before. :)

Great pictures and looks like a great time by all, but..... Inflatable kayak plus gators?? Not me. Guess that's why I'm a Cali girl! Glad you had fun and so glad Judy got the experience. So Judy, how was climbing out? :D

Great pics ladies! I'm a scaredy cat too ... gators? with an inflatable kayak? :o No way, but if they come up with an armored kayak I'll be there so I can see the clear water.
