The Silver River is my all-time favorite to kayak. I see something different every time I do, and it changes with the seasons. Lots of birds, reptiles, fish, and even monkeys!

But if you don't want to kayak and still want to see the river, they do have the glass-bottom boats running.

I've done day trips many times at gtg's in my area. They are always fun, and just gives me that much more encouragement to GET OUT THERE! :D

One of the first gtg I attended - long before I had an RV - was at Silver Springs SP. I rented one of the cabins there, very nice.

My girlfriend Cathy took me there when I was in Florida in January. It was in moderate disrepair. Nothing was open and there was construction going on on the buildings and other areas. Some trails were closed. They did have the glass bottom boat going but we decided not to take it. Not much to see right now.
We walked around a bit but it was very disappointing. Would have rather spent the day looking at horses. :(

Hopefully, by October, it will be all fixed up and the shops will be reopened by then.

Shops? I don't remember any shops in the state park. What was in disrepair? The cg is beautiful?

The old Silver Springs park has shops. It has now been incorporated into the State Park so they are busy redoing everything so all the area will now be a state park. They will have shops open, in the area of the glass bottom boats. I am so glad Florida has taken over the whole park.

Kathleen, I remember the cold wet afternoons we spent in CArols rig. All learning how t play Hand and Foot. I don't remember who won any of it but I remember the ring of laughter...and just how may ladies can fit in a small RV when it is cold outside..... :)

If anyone is interested in a great spot for this GTG, I cancelled my reservation for site #8.

I have a week off and can't resist going back to Hunting Island. Looking forward to camping at the beach again and eating jumbo shrimp! Silver Springs is close to home, so I can stay there on long weekends.

Hi everyone! It has been quite awhile since I have got on the Forum. Sarah, Bluepinecones, told me last night there is going to be a GTG this October. I have decided to move to Florida and quit camp hosting. This is not too far from where I will be staying beginning in August or September. I am planning on driving over at least a day or two so I can see everyone again and meet any new people. I am really looking forward to having free time again. No more 40+ hour work weeks for me.

I am also going to be in FL after the middle of August so will either come up for a few days or will plan day visits during the GTG.
