It's nothing fancy but has lots of sites (some with yurts, but only a few sites with full hookups and you do get a lot of I-5 noise, but I love walking the park. If you take the trail towards the tenting area it's like a fairyland. The ferns along the trail are huge and the trees also, with interesting shapes etc. The park is always kept clean, nice restrooms/showers & camp hosts are very friendly.

I'm in Portland as well! Silver Falls State Park is one of my favorites. Champoeg is good as well. There are many along the coast.

I'm in Salem. My favorite park is 7 Feathers in Canyonville. Second favorite would be Casey's in Westfir. I don't mind the state parks for a few nights but they're really not a destination for me unless it is a gtg.

I'm going to explore central/eastern Oregon next summer so I might find another favorite park...

I live in Salem and do not recommend this park. There are a lot of issues with permanent residents (drugs, recent shootings, etc). The same goes for Salem Campground next to Home Depot off Highway 22 (stray cats everywhere, drugs, homeless camps in the bushes, etc). There is a new park a little farther south near the winery (not sure what the rates are). If you go a farther south you could try Blue Ox in Albany or the KOA near Corvallis. South of that I recommend Armitage Park in Coburg (nice county park and they have cable). If you just need a place to sleep and don't need hook ups I think the rest area between Salem and Albany is okay. The Walmart on South Commercial Street in Salem allows overnight parking (after checking with the manager.)

That's about it for Salem. Not much to choose from...

And if you're ok with dry camping, the casino about 20 miles west of Salem allows it, I think for 3 nights. There is also a fairgrounds about the same distance west of Salem that has hookups. Not fancy by any means, but if price is a factor, not a bad place.

Benton County fairgrounds in Albany Or next to Corvalis was clean and ok when we were there in I think 08. It is tiny and we had no trouble just dropping in with no reservations, but it was not fair time of course. If I recall it was only $10 at the time. We stayed there the night before going almost next door to a place to have the veg oil system installed on our bus. We also stayed at Polk Co fairgrounds a couple of times in Rickreall Or which is not far west of Salem. Has electric and a dump. We were there twice for bus rally's.

Check out http://www.rvparkreviews.com/ You can find parks on your route. Most contain a link to the park's website and current prices.
