campground guide?

campground guide?

Postby JanetA » Mon Aug 12, 2013 3:59 pm

Which campground guide to you all use? I have been looking online to buy one and I seem to have run into a weird situation. My first search brought up some 2012 guides that had a $2-$300 pricetag. What on earth is up w/ that? I bought those in the seventies and they were an inch thick and cost about 10-20 dollars each.

Please advise??????

I use several services on line, including what Maggie just mentioned, and Passport America. Just remember, read the reviews if you use anything, because the reasons some dislike a place, might be reasons you'd like it and vice versa.

I do have a guide for COE and NF cg's, cuz I like them so much and sometimes use the guide when I don't have online access. Mine's older and may not even be out anymore, but for the most part all the cg's in it are the same.

If you have a Smart Phone or tablet, there are aps. My favorites are Allstays and Campwhere. There are plenty others. I also have NF and COE books, but they show up on those aps too.

I also use http://www.rvparkreviews.com/

And then, just before I make my final selection, I find the park on Google maps and zoom in so I can see what the place really looks like and what it is near. Those photos that some post of their campgrounds are seldom realistic. Google maps also enables me to see if it is near something that might bother me, like a major freeway, railroad, busy intersection, bar and casino area, etc.

What a great idea using Google Maps. I didn't think of that even though I use Google all the time. Thanks for the info.

I plan to walk to the movies tomorrow from the campsite. By using the Google Maps, I could zoom in and see exactly where the cinema was and how to get there. This will be a handy tool for camp comparisons.

When looking for campsites/parks, I find the Good Sam app on my phone handy when traveling and trying to decide where to stop. And Googling for RV parks in any particular city, I find, is the best.
