Winter Hose Storage

As I was putting MoW (Mansion on Wheels) away for the winter this morning, I recalled Nan's horror story of creatures in either her hose or her water filter (can't recall which).

Anyway, to prevent "things" from entering the hose and dying, and to prevent mold from growing, I thought about putting a small wad of steel wool (or copper wool) in the open ends of the hoses.

Any pros or cons? (it's done, but I can easily go undo if the cons are bad...)

I normally just drain mine, sometime blow them out with air (same fitting I use to blow out water lines in trailer) and connect the ends. I'll run some water through them before using them again in the spring. As a rule we don't drink the trailer water.

As for your method, it sounds good, I'd just use the brass so the steel did not rust in the end of your hose. Don't want rust in my water
