Pet Safety Heat Alarm for RVs

Postby avalen » Sun Aug 10, 2008 8:05 am

I've had two incidents last summer where the circuit breaker tripped on
the a/c and once this summer. My poor Bandit really suffered during these
moments but thankfully I was able to get home before anything tragic
happened. I came across this device while researching a workkamping
facility in New Mexico that will call your cell phone if the heat rises in
your rv while your away putting your pets in danger. I'm not going through
another summer without one! Pricey but well worth it in my opinion.

Actually, I was quite impressed with this site, it is DesertHaven Animal
Refuge in New Mexico and they offer workkamping. Its a no kill shelter
near Truth or Consequences. Just another possibility for those of you
who do the workkamping thing, especially if you love to work with the
little animals. This link takes you to the Animal Refuge

Ava, I've have something very similar in my rigs for years.. as showing dogs in fields things can happen... Mine is set up to open the vents turn on the fans and the horn blows and lights flash.. it was set up by my RV dealer.. now some of my friends do have the one that calls the cell phone.. my choice was to go with a different setup.. I've only had it go off once..but that once was scary enough...and all around came running.. door was open..of course my dogs are in crates when I'm not there... so didn't have to worry about them running out.... but yes, I've talked about this set up ever since I've been on a forum.. of non dog show people.....Mine is set up through my Auxiliary batteries.. when power fails it switches on .. the temp is set up when it reaches a certain level it will automatically start opening the vents.. great system that's another reason I never turn my Axillary batteries off... not in the summertime anyway...

Good topic...

God Bless

I hope to have one to get me through next summer. If I'm at work it will call my cell
phone and then I can call the park manager and tell her where my spare key is to
trip the circut breaker. I can also be on my way home but it would be a 15 to 20
minute drive to get home. I had no idea these things existed until this morning.

I like that also - but I'm a little confused as to how it works. If you get it please answer some questions - it says it uses a cell phone to call you - so does that mean you have to leave your cell there? Then what phone will it call - as my only phone is my cell phone?

I planned to workamp at Desert Haven for a month next spring - but have heard from one of our forum sisters, and one other now, that it's not a great place for workampers, unfortunately. I hope the manager of that shelter treats the animals better than the workers from some stories I've been told. I still hope to stop there, maybe next spring, and see for myself. Maybe things have changed for the better - for the workampers - but I wouldn't sign on with them now without seeing for myself.

the way I'm understanding how it works is that it dials your cellphone. Think I'll
send them an email and ask specifically.
