And know that so many of us here understand each of your tears..... I have quit even worrying about what the staff at the vets think of me..... They ask if I want to stay, I say yes, I hold or just gentle stroke their face, whisper to them and ears and fall apart.....

I am not going to say "buck up or get a grip" sorry I cried a thousand tears when I lost my Blossom. And when I had to have my 19 and 18 yr old cats put to sleep that I grew up with. I have to say when I lost Blossom last year my house was so empty. I was lost without her as we had our morning routine where we would go for a walk to the dog park, come home, she would eat then go to sleep. I think when she was gone the house was soooooooo quiet I could hear echoes in my house. I didnt say I wouldnt get another dog. My heart had room to love another. I got a puppy (get a puppy it will be fun they said) my first puppy ever. I had to wait a long month to get her and she has filled my house with joy and love for the last 1 1/2 yrs. I know how devastated you must feel but it does sound like it is time. My heart does ache for you losing this member of your family. ((((((HUGS))))))

Hugs, Rita!

(And it took me about 5, maybe 6 weeks to get another dog this time. People were telling me I was grumpier than someone who just quit smoking. There just something about every dog who has ever owned me that means, no matter how hard losing them, it's hard to be without one. You'll decide that later.)

Please don't ever say you just can't have another dog and go through this again. Think of it as your greatest tribute to your lost pet to give another dog that needs you, a home. I've seen a poem to this effect. Think of it as saving the life of another dog who needs a forever home. You're not "REPLACING" your lost one, you're giving another one a chance for love and life.

Breezie had cancer of the liver. She is now free. My head is telling me one thing which I know was the right thing to do, my heart is arguing.

I'm sure we are all crying with you Rita. Remember your little Breezie in the good times.

The Secret

We have a secret, you and I
that no one else shall know,
for who but I can see you lie
each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand
before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you
and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths
and see ahead of me,
your small form racing with the wind
so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
in every brook I pass
and when I call, no one but I
can see the bending grass.
