Mitzi had a bad day

Postby Redetotry » Wed Nov 16, 2016 12:49 pm

Once again Mitzi found something tasty to eat that she shouldn't. I have no idea what but heard the crunching just as she gulped the last bit down. It didn't quite go down and at first I thought it was lodged in her mouth but I couldn't fine anything. She continued to gulp and was really stressed. Of course it was just after hours so I called the vets emergency number. After talking to them decided to wait until morning as she ate her dinner. Took her in as soon as they opened yesterday motning and they kept her. Gave her IV fluids and antibiotics and did more ex rays. Finally they decided they didn't need to do surgery and she got to come home around four. It was a long, quiet day. She is still a bit subdued and taking some meds but hopefully this too will 'pass'...

Hope Mitzi is ok. Don't they always do something when the vet is closed.

Last night when I went to feed the barn cats I found a half eaten rat and what looks like one had thrown up what they a eaten. UCK! I scraped it up and threw it over the fence. I should have put it in the trash barrel so they couldn't get it again. We don't put out poison but no telling where the rat came from.

Herschel ate something when he was young and foolish and needed treatment because he had scratched his throat and it had gotten infected. He had stopped eating but perked right up with antibiotics. It is amazing what passes though there systems but we have all read the stories of the dogs requiring surgery for those things that did not pass.

It just amazes me what dogs will eat! I have heard about rocks, Christmas lights, knives, etc.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Peaches eats things all the time. I worry, but she seems to have a constitution that accepts it.

Poor Mitzi. I hope she's good today.

Thanks for the good wishes, she seems fine now. They gave me a few days of antibiotics for her as her temp was so high they felt there was an infection. Maybe what ever it was scratched her throat on the way down. Giving her a pill is an adventure. Gave this mornings pill, followed with a dab of yogurt on her nose to make her swallow. Went back several minutes later and there was the pill.

I give pills in hotdogs, cheese and peanutbutter to my little guys. For Sophie, my food hound, I throw it up in the air and she snags it, has no idea what she's just eaten.
