Pawprints Left by You

Postby Colliemom » Mon Sep 22, 2014 6:41 pm

I picked up Sassy's ashes today and then had a burial session by my headstone in the local cemetery for both of my beloved furry friends, Tessa whom I sent to Rainbow Bridge in June of last year, but kept her ashes here until her mother (Sassy) joined her last week. I took them for that final ride and said my final goodbye, shedding tears the whole time of course. This poem came with their ashes and I thought I would share it with you. You might want to get a Kleenex before you read it though....

Pawprints Left By You

You know longer greet me,
As I walk through the door.
You're not there to make me smile,
To make me laugh anymore.
Life seems quiet without you,
You were far more than a pet.
You were a family member, a friend,
..A loving soul I'll never forget.

It will take time to heal
For the silence to go away.
I still listen for you,
And miss you every day.
You were such a great companion,
Constant, loyal and true.
My heart will always wear
the paw prints left by you.

I like that. And I know what a tough day it was for you. Big hugs.

What a neat poem. They do leave paw prints on our hearts! It sounds like a difficult day for you but now they are resting in peace together, or rather romping around together at the Rainbow Bridge. ((((hugs))))

How nice you were able to do that. Another step in moving along from grieving toward only the happy memories.

Poem brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for sharing it Sue. (((hugs))) for the day you had, but knowing they are waiting for you at the bridge may ease your heart.

Tears and ((((hugs)))) to you. Ever think about a shelter rescue? There are SOOOOO many dogs in shelters just waiting for someone to love them and they make such wonderful pets.

I am so sorry for your loss.

This poem has always offered me comfort in times like yours.

The Secret

We have a secret, you and I,
That no one else shall know,
For who, but I can see you lie,
Each night, in fireglow?
And who but I can reach my hand
Before we go to bed,
And feel the living warmth of you
And touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths,
And see, ahead of me,
Your small form racing with the wind,
So young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
In every brook I pass...
And, when I call, no one but I
Can see the bending grass.

Speaks to my heart. That is lovely. It's so hard to lose our little furry friends.
