No More!

Postby Cougarfan » Fri Feb 22, 2013 9:19 pm

No more crawling over the passenger seat to get in my big truck after work.

No more waiting 30 minutes for the person parked next to me to get off work so I can open a door to get into my big truck.

No more parking at the end of the row at the grocery store so I can load my groceries through the passenger door.

After exhaustive research over the last few months and asking a few friends (thanks Sharon!) I found a smaller vehicle to park in my teeny parking spot at work that will also easily tow my little trailer.

Image

Its a 2012 Jeep Liberty with factory tow package which includes integrated sway control among other things. It actually has a higher tow rating than my big truck and only weighs about 400 lbs less. The place I bought it is owned by the same people that own the rv dealer I work with so they let me "test-tow" my trailer all over the sales lot with this Jeep before I bought it (all the trailers were out at the fairgrounds for the big rv show so there was lots of room to pull it around.) It did a great job! I didn't take it on the open road because I didn't have a brake controller but I am confident that it will do fine!

Anyway, just had to share the new addition to my family.

Laura

P.S. Stay tuned for a modification I did to my trailer to make camping easier (thanks Mitch!)...

How cool! I'm so envious. What's the max tow weight? (my van is only 3,500#, and Vickie has let you ALL know how anal I am about weighing stuff and not going over...) I seriously wish I could tow more weight...then the ice maker and some overweight boyfriend wouldn't be an issue (you KNOW I'd choose the ice maker). And besides, I don't have a boyfriend.

Congrats on your new TV!!!

Mitch, it can tow up to 3500# without a weight distribution hitch and up to 5000# with one. My trailer only weighs about 2700# loaded for towing so I'm well within the weights. I wouldn't tow anything much longer than the trailer I have due to the short wheelbase of the Jeep but at 14' I think my trailer will be fine. The Jeep still outweighs the trailer by almost 2000# so I am not too worried about stopping it. I need to tow it on the road of course but I think I'll be fine. I also have an additional friction sway control I will use just in case...

Really nice. I like those Jeep Libertys. Even DH can fit in one. We are considering getting one as a TOAD.

I love it, Laura! Good move as you can now get in and out! I know what you mean about having to find a parking place for a truck----it's a real pain. My truck doors take up an entire spot on their own when they are open! Congrats!

When I was considering a MH I felt the Jeep Liberty would be my choice on tow vehicle...I love the color!
