Pinos Altos, New Mexico

Pinos Altos (tall pines) is an old mining town that still has people living there. Cute little town in the foothills of the Pinos Altos Mountains. Today was mild and sunny so I took a drive and had lunch there. Yesterday I put out my bird feeders and this morning I had my first hummingbird. We're supposed to have some possible rain and thundershowers tonight.

The entire town was build in the late 1800's as a mining town.







I do love old cemeteries.





This headstone was handmade and only had initials on it.







Do you know how many seeds I've sowed over the years and here they are happily growing in a crack in the stairs.



Its been so windy that Freddy the Flamingo is spending more time inside with me than outside.

love hummingbirds we had feeders up at our place in Q we had two feeders one on the back window loved watching them had 5 at one time 4 feeding one waiting it's turn!!!

I love the mail-order bride notice. Hmmmm...never had to consider bolstering my hips! Bet a few women were more than a little disappointed with who/what met them at the end of a long journery too.

That cracked me up about the mail order brides! I can just imagine the gals point of view
1) no head lice
2) has to take baths
3) has clean tailored clothes
4) will not hit a woman
5) goes to church on Sundays and
does not spit on the porch!

Interesting town Karen, especially that people still live there
How do they make a living? Our local paper had an article about
'Bodie', a ghost town in Eastern CA, this week. It was built in the
same time period. But when the gold ran out residences simply
walked away. Dishes on tables, etc.

diana, Pinos Altos is only about six miles from Silver City so you could live there and work in SC. The ice cream parlor is also the post office and a lunch counter. The museum sells "stuff" and the Opera House actually puts on plays during the summer. I imagine most of the people are either retired or work in SC altho there doesn't appear to me, to be much work there. They get a fair amount of tourists in the summer visiting the Gila Cliff Dwellings.

It is a male black-chinned hummer. Lot of really good shots Karen, I see you got to the cemetery - just can't keep ya away from there! Lots of old mine towns over near you with many great stories. I visited the town of Bodie, CA in 2007 - for a grouse bird trip. It looked like they packed the clothes, most dishes they would need, and tools to make a living and left home one morning. It had a really nice cemetery that you would enjoy investigating. Bet you are loving the cold or rather cool nights up there aren't you?
