Finally jumped into it with both feet

Postby drocknut » Fri Apr 18, 2014 9:25 pm

Well, after all my hemming and hawwing I finally just made a decision and got my trailer. I bought a 2014 Jayco Jay Feather 19RD. This one had a four seasons package and was less expensive than the Nash I was looking at but has a few more bells and whistles. It also didn't hurt that it has a two year warranty rather than just one year. Now I have to figure out how to tow it safely and then where to park it. That seems to be the biggest problem now. I've already camped one night at the dealership which was a great idea because when a few things needed fixed I got them done right away. I was actually really picky about everything being ship shape when I took it off the lot. Now I'm at a KOA for the night mostly because it was the least expensive place around here and the wind was so bad today I decided to wait until tomorrow to brave the highway. I will admit I'm definitely nervous about towing it but I'm just going to take it slow and easy. I haven't got the slightest clue what I'm doing but at least I'm doing it :D

Congratulations! Once you practice a little, it will come easy. Take it to an empty parking lot to practice backing it up for parking. Otherwise, just have fun and learn as you go! And feel free to ask questions on here about anything you aren't sure of.

And ask. There are usually lots of people around campgrounds willing to help and give advice. Good luck and have fun.

Lovely! I think you'll like the Jayco. They have a good, solid reputation.

I looked at the specs, and I think there's a typo with the size of the fresh water tank, though. 90 gallons is a bit large in any trailer, more so in a 19'!

Have fun making it your own, and yes, pictures when you've nested in it would be most welcome.

Congrats!

How wonderful for you! I bet you've got a lot of emotions going on with the start of this new adventure, but everyone has to be at the start sometime. Remember the ladies are always here to help with questions.

In time you'll be a pro :D ~~~ and then I can ask you questions when it's my turn.

Have fun and keep us informed.

Nice!! I am so glad the hunt is over for you - I know what that's like! I've been in your shoes - towing when I didn't have a clue! You'll be surprised how easy it is.

The 90 gallons of fresh water would be so nice, but a lot of weight! Looking at their site, it appears they have a Water Works system that allows 75+ gallons. Interesting.

Enjoy!!

Thanks to you all. I definitely am having the mixed emotions, going from "what the heck did I get myself into" to "hey, I have a new home". The what the heck one surfaced when I was parking the trailer in the Walmart parking lot in Helena with the wind blowing, the rain spitting, and the cold cutting through my flimsy coat (note to self, get better coat out of storage). I did get it set up and even managed to get a few things out of the storage unit like my bedding so I had a nice warm flannel quilt that I made on my bed that kept me warm and cozy all night :D I ran the furnace but tried to keep the temperature down to 60 so I could conserve propane.
Here's a picture of my trailer when I picked it up at the dealership:

This is the whole rig, truck and trailer:

And one of the inside looking towards the back couch where Gypsy is huddled scared to death of setting a paw on the floor. She is still not wanting to walk around in the trailer and spends her time on my bed where I set up her bed but at least she isn't clawing the door to get out.

I'll try to get some more pictures of the inside when I get it set up better. It's a mess right now.
