This is a true story from about 30 years ago. When DH and I were living in Port Aransas we met a woman who told us what happened to her. In the middle of the night her husband left her. In a rented house, trashy furniture, no money. He took their only vehicle, She was desperate and went to the local carnival and asked if there was a job she could do. Thinking she could handle one of the games or sell tickets. The owner told her they were pulling out in the morning. He had lost a driver and told her that if she could drive one of the big trucks she would have a job. He drew a "map" of the gears and told her to be a certain spot 20 miles down the road. If she was at the side of the road at any point before that he would have someone else to drive the truck and she would be left behind. If she was at the designated point then they would drive by and she could pull in behind them and she would have a job. She rushed to the nearest bar and pleaded with some of the guys to help her. One guy said he knew truck gears and showed her what to do. She was at the spot when the carnival trucks appeared. The owner gave her a wave and she pulled into line. She worked the carnival for a couple of years and got her life together. Its amazing what we women can do when push comes to shove.
