I have already read it earlier this month.....I have worked with individuals with cognitive impairments my entire professional career, developmental disabilities, autism, tramatic brain injury, plus my experiences these past four years volunteering at the health care center. Well, there was watching my father those last months. Short term memory loss and and OC issues are nothing new.......what is interesting is the attempt to put it in 1st person perspective. Like reading a book by Temple Grandin about Autism........

Hi all,

Not sure the status of this discussion, but have finished the book. I loved Alice and her brave life. If we don't do an online discuss I will look forward to chatting around a campfire in the future with Beth and Sparkle.
Thanks for recommending this one.

And am wondering if anybody has ideas for another challenging book?

I have been giving this subject (book reviews) some thought. To digress, when my husband was out of work he suddenly developed an intense interest in crossword puzzles, something he had never done before. We decided that his mind was desperate for something to do. Beth and I have no access to news programs, nothing to engage our minds, so we are excited when we read about a subject that grabs our attention. Other people are so involved, under so much pressure that they need something light to read to give their brains a rest. Luckily there is something for everyone in the book world.

I think you're right Sparkle. I read at night in bed to help me relax from the day and fall asleep. I used to read lots more when I was young, I could read a book in one day and do nothing else, those days are long gone! Now I think I could sit and do dot-to-dot on the days my brain is fried, till I look in the mirror and see all my freckles have lines going to them!

Diana,
Come the beginning of Nov - any of us who have read the book can discuss it. Maybe some more are reading.

One month I tried suggesting a light book for the book of the month, and people said that wasn't worthy of that. So, I give up - this is too heavy for most - a light book wasn't heavy enough. Why can those who are interested simply read it and we'll discuss - if not interest, pick something you would be interested in for another month and those interested in that will read it. As Sparkle says - not everyone will be interested in the same things. I will say - 4 have read the book here at Kaibab now - and each one has been glad to have done so.

My neighbor's loaning me the book as soon as she finishes...so haven't quite started it yet. But go ahead and discuss...I'll add my 2 cents later.

I was halfway through my intelligent insightful review of this book when Beth told me I couldn't post until November 1st. By which time I will have forgotten my pithy comments and will post, "this book wuz reel good."
