Oh, my, look what I found! So glad to have run across these -- I flatly refuse to pay collector's prices when I just want reading copies, and I finally have them!

Gertrude Jekyll: Her Art Restored
Gertrude Jekyll's Lost Garden

The gardens at Upton Grey were designed by Gertrude Jekyll, but disintegrated from neglect over time. When the Wallingers bought the place, Rosamund decided to restore them to the original design. She inadvertently made herself an international expert on Edwardian gardens, too.

The cover on the right was originally a cover for an issue of House and Garden some time in the '80s. I remember seeing it and thinking, "Yeah, like she mows her own lawn." As it turns out, she did -- and was very surprised when the HG photographers left without a formal photo of her in the gardens, and even more surprised when this one appeared on their cover. She hadn't even known they were taking it.

I'd love to see Upton Grey one day. Really, I'm just going to have to manage six weeks in London one of these years.
