I'm planning on spending the winter in Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico, so I would be interested in hearing about any good state parks with views out in that area to stay in a week or two each.

There isn't a single NM state park that I haven't loved. They are all awesome. That said, I usually don't spend time in Truth or Consequences. Planned it as a stop my first year in my rv, and ended up traveling on ... much as I love NM, that wasn't one of my favorite places. But I think the closest NM sp to it is Elephant Butte, and I've stayed there and loved it.

If you plan on spending enough time in NM, look into getting an annual state park pass. Pricey for a non-resident, but the lower rates are worthwhile if you use it enough, which you could do easily if staying a week or more at various locations. Their sp rates are already wonderful.

Here's my blog posts from last spring when I traveled across NM: http://ontheroadwithbeth.com/blog/categ ... ew-mexico/

I was deliberately staying places and state parks I hadn't been to before ... so on my previous trip I can think offhand I stayed at Brantley Lakes and City of Rocks State Parks. Highly recommend each and every NM state park I stayed at. Some are not close to cities, so make sure you have everything you need. I'm not mentioning any of the northern ones, as you're talking about being there winter ... so those will most likely be closed, or snow-covered.

Thanks Beth. Actually I just accepted a workamping job in T or C at Riverbend. My schedule will give me plenty of time to make forays to the other areas and I had heard from them that Elephant Butte SP was a fav with another workamper on her days off. I also have a cousin in Albuquerque and a music friend in Las Cruces, so it will be convenient to GTG with them. I'll definitely get the state pass.

For winter, my thoughts are to go to Baja. I know that is a fav of yours. Are you going this winter?

Beth, I just finished reading your blog of NM. That is quite a pictorial of NM SPs. Like I've said before, if I could just follow you and Liz around, I'll have a great time! Planning my route and stops with your info. Not leaving until May 1st due to last check doctor appointments and tests.

I agree with Joan... wish I could just follow Beth & Liz around...  Great pics, great places with wonderful naratives. I've started a spreadsheet so I can capture the campgrounds you all are stopping at that I want to visit someday. :D
Thanks to each of you who post these blogs... I know they're a lot of work - know they are greatly appreciated!
