I do love poking the logs as they burn down.
PS. does anyone else have my problem while sitting around a campfire. Seems no matter where I sit the smoke changes direction and comes right at me!

And I've found it to be true!

I guess we were bad little kids, because we would always add on "but Beauty was a horse" (as in Black Beauty). It also worked in the saying "Age before beauty".

One of the neat things about the propane campfires is that you can burn them in areas with burning bans.
And if it's a late night and you don't want to stay up long, you can just turn it on and turn it off!

Not that I'm questioning you or anything, because I'm quite certain you've researched it, but I thought when there was a burn ban there could be no open flames. I remember one year we were headed to Colorado and there was a burn ban and you couldn't even smoke a cigarette outside your vehicle or bldg. The ban was lifted before we got there. (there were several of us in the group that smoked at that time). Maybe different states have different rules?

Vicki, perhaps the burn bans are for open wood fires that send off sparks etc. ?

Cool,,, uh, I mean HOT! LOL How tall is it? Is that individual lava rocks that you pile on there or it one piece that looks like multiple rocks? If it's multiple how do you pack it, does yours have a zipper bag like Karen's did? Um, I think that's it for now, LOL.

I would guess it's about 20" tall. It came with little lava rocks and I thought those would be a pain to deal with, so I snarfed some bigger ones off that portable propane grill I told you about earlier. Came with a bag. I'm sure it's the same thing.

Karen, was yours a Good Housekeeping brand?

It's really lightweight...and has 2 settings - HIGH and LOW. I need to wait until full dark to really check it out.

Mitch, don't you just love it - its so cute. You could roast a marshmellow or hotdog on it. When packing it for travel I put the lava rocks in a ziplock bag. Mine is exactly like yours and I LOVED the price. I love sitting around a fire BUT just about the time the fire would get going really well, I'd be ready for bed and I always worried about putting it out all the way.

Gotta get me one of those for sure! But I want a low-down one on a smaller pedastal, with a cover to keep out the rain after the fire is turned off. NY State is trying to prevent the spread of wood diseases lately, and forbids the transporting of firewood from one area to another. (Good idea, in fact.) One of those puppies would be just the ticket! We could use it on the pastures of Allburgh VT, too, for that annual bluegrass festival next year!

And for a minimum $100 savings, I'll second it's a great deal.
Actually, I plan to get another one (backup, being the anal person I am) if there are any left at Walmart tomorrow.
Gotta head to town tomorrow to pick up my case of champagne splits for the TN GTG...
