Parchment Paper for Baking

I often bake stuff, and have been getting tired of scrubbing baking pans. It always seems to take a lot more water than I have and I often need to soak them for ever, it seems. It was never a problem when I had a dishwasher, but RV living makes all this scrubbing up a pain.

The other day, when I was buying aluminum foil, I noticed that Reynolds makes parchment paper. Professional bakers use this often, but I had never used it before. Anyway, bought a roll, and I love it!! I have used it to bake cookies and to pour out a non-baked cookie. I just made some refrigerator cinnamon rolls on it. The best part is that when you are done, you just toss it--no washing of the pan at all!! And cookies or rolls just fall off of it--no sticking at all. I would think this would eliminate those sprays and having to butter pans.

I considered using it the other day to bake some chicken and rice, but chickened out because the recipe is so soupy when you start, but I am going to consult my nephew and niece's husband, both of which have culinary arts degrees about living a pan and using it for really wet stuff.

Yep, parchment is very useful. I don't know how well it would work in wet applications though.

me too....but I'm not sure about the wet stuff...how ever just a thought Judy there are liners for crockpots wonder if they could be used
in other pans? have no idea as I've never used them

Judy, I've never used parchment paper but can see how that would make life easier, especially living an RV. I do use the crockpot liners, and they're a Godsend.

I just counted - I have 7 rolls here at the house and 1 or 2 in the trailer.
I love parchment paper!

Here's an informative little site - be sure to read all the questions
(I never knew you could use the stuff in a frying pan (for eggs, etc.)
And they do mention somewhere that it's for easy-clean up/non-stick, not containing liquids.

I use parchment paper when I make lasagna - good to use anytime you don't want to scrub out the casserole dish.

Thanks for the great new ideas for parchment.my hubby years ago,got a giant size box (about 2 ft x3 ft and 500 pieces) that was being tossed as surplus and bought it home for me. Not even opened. Been using it for years and hardly put a dent in it. I needed those new ways to use it so my thanks.

If you can use it for lasagna, I am sure I can use it for the chicken and rice dish! This is exciting and thanks for the link, Mitch. I knew what parchment paper was for, but my mother never used it, so of course, I never tried it all of these decades. Duh! :oops:

I distrust all those non-stick sprays because of the chemicals, so I end up soaking and soaking crusted-on pans.

I think I will fold the corners like an upside down bed--you know, not cut the paper but make the paper fit in the corners.

Judy, one of the videos at the link says it forms better if wet down first. I have not tried it but it sounds promising.

I've never cooked with parchment paper . . . but I can tell you it's absolutely wonderful for baking polymer clay pieces! :lol:

Lol..no Mitch I don't do that..but I do use it on projects that call for paper piecing that would be sewing
the material together on the paper then when all pieces of material are sewn together
you ripped the paper off and discard..that's the best I can do to describe it
