Torrential Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Torrential Tuesday

Postby BarbaraRose » Tue Jan 09, 2018 8:42 am

Just got up early because it has been pouring rain since early last night. Took a look at my peaceful trickling creek and it is now a raging river!! Luckily I am up pretty high but it is quite a sight to see! More heavy rain today and tomorrow yet. Too early to get the news here but I am sure there will be lots of reports coming in of flooding later on.

I switched shifts with a coworker today so am on a 9 hour shift, so will be a long day!

Hope you all have a good, safe and dry day!

update...the rain is coming down harder now and the winds have picked up quite a bit. Sounds like a hurricane out there! Found a little water coming in on the porch...

Good morning from Marathon, in the Keys! Leaving this afternoon to head up to Miccosuki Casino for a couple of nights, then on to Palm Beach to visit my friend, Kristine. Got my laundry done, yesterday. It was a gorgeous day, with highs in the 70's, so finally put on shorts. Went out with my friends, to a local hangout, for happy hour. Another lady friend of theirs met up with us there. Great personality and we all had a great visit and a couple of beers and nachos. Woke up at 1 a.m. with an excruciating sinus headache! Starting to think I've become allergic to beer. Dammit! Oh, well! It could always be worse. I seem to have relieved most of the pain, but I'm probably not out of the woods. Barbie, I hope your cute new home is high and dry! Loving the improvements! Not sure when I'll be able to check in again, so carry on!

Am northeast of Las Vegas in Valley of Fire SP, and it rained heavily all night. 1.5” of rain so far in this desert and more rain expected today. They have not had rain for 113 days and average only 5” per year, so this is indeed a torrent!!

Am still in bed watching tv when satellite works, huddled under my down comforter! (Only 8 am here.). Luckily am up high so no danger of flooding.

I'm so lazy... Still lying in bed. Peaches finally got up, so I'll have to soon. Most everything I want to do is inside today. Rains to arrive later in the day here. Talk that they could be heavy also. Yesterday I took Peaches to a vet here... Taking her back Friday for a teeth cleaning and to have a cyst on a leg removed. Peaches gets these and hasn't needed surgical removal before. But I don't like this one.

Barbie, I hope the rain in the porch isn't bad and that the creek doesn't get high enough to flood you.

It's almost 10, if I don't get up and out walking, it will be raining before I do

Good morning
Big news here is we are above freezing and will stay that way for 3 days. Bad news is that back near zero by weekend.
Just updated the reservations list for Hardee Lakes gtg in Feb. Looks like we are up to 13 or 14 now. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Good Morning! Yes, the rains came! Love them!

Not good news on the root canal. Tooth is cracked all the way down. Can’t be fixed, and must be removed. Temp crown put on. I am going to wait until after Q to get it pulled. I am also Not getting the flu prior toQ.

As the flu is so bad here in SD, all the nursing homes and hospitals have placed restrictions on visitors.

Wash your hands everyone!

Yes, do what Lyn recommends, besides she was a nurse! ......stay as healthy as you can.

Not really feeling the need to share most of the daily chores of life around here but did want to give a shout out in general to any other dog people who after more than two weeks of snow and freezing temperatures are finally able to go out and clean up their yards. (Just make mine x four.) I learned a long time ago frozen poop does not remove easily and the effort to do so is not worth my fingers, feet and face in freezing single digit temperatures. So today was the day to put on the rubber boots and patrol the yard for the land mines. Lark broke up the chore by bring her ball back to me periodically so that I could throw it back out again. She is so thoughtful.

Good thing the unfreeze came about the same time that I finally have begun to feel human for the first time since Christmas. Not the flu but the head, sinus, cold and drainage stuff that makes my whole body want to just hibernate and forget that there is anything worth getting up and moving from the couch or the chair. Between the weather outside and not feeling well, my body, brain and spirit all went on strike at the same time.

Update: Had a brief break in rain this morning so I could take trash out and refill my water tanks--ran out of water in middle of night . (Am using tanks instead of city water hookup because that ensures no water pump problems.) Rainfall totaled 2.1" by noon and more expected this afternoon. That is amazing in a desert that gets only 5" per year! Glad I can stay inside today and don't have to drive anywhere.

Glad to hear that the eastern states have warmed up a little.

Lyn, you are so right about not getting the flu. I wash my hands everywhere I go and as soon as I get home. I haven't seen anyone at the nursing home that looks like they are sick. They had a bad cold and cough going around several months ago and it took Harold a long time to get over the cough. Someone I know on Facebook went to the ER in Lafayette. They gave her a bottle of the IV fluid in the ER and sent her home. She doesn't have the flu and they were afraid she would catch it if she was admitted. I'm not sure what her problem is but she is being treated as an outpatient through the ER. I would be afraid to even go to the ER. I would be a good candidate to catch something. Today I went to the Dollar Store, nursing home, Walmart, local grocery store, post office and the bank.

We had a slight cold front come through with our rain the other night. It got up to 60 today but it's overcast and damp so feels colder than that. It's suppose to get cold and rain again Thursday and be back in the 20's on Saturday. Grrrrrr The weather channel is showing all the mud slides in California.

Well, definitely not morning anymore but finally had time to kick back and relax. No rain here but it's suppose to start this evening and rain off n on through the night. Morning calls for sunshine about 8.
We do need some moisture! We had a bit of curiosity factor going on here for a couple hours this morning when police, ambulance and fire dept rolled in. Not just one each but about 6 each and they closed off the south side, all the streets! Somewhere over there a propane leak was reported and they had to find it. So no explosions and no smoke meant so far so good. They apparently found it cause two hours later they pulled out.
Been fussing with my phone lately still get an ad pop up on occasion. Downloaded various virus scans and a malware scan, nothing helped so uninstalled all that crap and will reset my phone. All my stuff is backed up so should be ok. A friend asked me to download yahoo messenger today, still trying to get that to work. They don't do facebook so that messenger wasn't an option.
Ok, hanging out in front of the tv for now. Stay dry

Rain, Rain, Rain! Hooray for rain!

My little creek is a roaring river too. I used the same term as Barbie did - early this morning, the winds picked up & it sounded like a hurricane. It was too dark to see what was happening but it was wild out there for a bit. Thankfully we've had some breaks when I could take Sadie out. Haven't turned on the news so I'm not sure how the burn areas are doing.

Really enjoyed my visit to Laguna on Sunday with Barbie. What a beautiful area! Will definitely have to visit there more often. Enjoyed the photos, Barbie - they're great! thanks for sharing them here.

Kids are due back from France this week (both of their flights were overbooked so they got a couple of extra days in Paris) - can't wait to hear about all of their adventures. Gaby texted me the other day & said she wanted to stay there - guess I'd better learn French.

I need to get going - still have some work to finish up for the day.
Stay dry & warm if you can - safe travels!

I’m in my second week with the flu. Feel awful. Saturday night I spent 5 hours at the ER while they gave me fluids. Sure hope I’ll be over it so I can get to Q.

Oh Sandi, yuck. Get well! I'm surrounded by people with the flu and keep hoping it stays away from me. This year it's just devastating.

This years flu is very bad. Our hospitals here also have restrictions on visitors under 18. Children are like little petri dishes for sure so they are keeping them out of the hospitals as visitors.

This flu also lasts a long time, unlike some previous strains. Also more incapacitating than usual. Hope you Sandi get to feeling better soon and anyone else who has the misfortune of getting the flu. The flu shot is not very effective on this H1N3 strain this year I heard 10%. But every little bit helps I guess.

I have been carrying my own hand sanitizer to the stores lately. I also wipe down my cart as I am hoping to escape getting the flu this year cause it is seems to be a bad one.
