It’s Monday!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

It’s Monday!

Postby Othersharon » Mon Jan 08, 2018 8:32 am

Good morning. I’ve been up and down all night with noise from a work crew on the street in front of my house. Imagine my surprise when I turned the water on nd had no water so my guess is that it’s the water company out there! Can’t see the sides of the trucks to identify them! Crazy that we got through all the really cold weather and now that it warmed up we have a problem. I did notice last night that the pressure was low but didn’t think much of it. So I see a nap in my day!

Linda, was good to see your post. You’ve been busy! Barbie has new floors and Carol, good to hear you found your new home. Goodness, I can’t keep up with everyone! Hoping for good weather for Q-Side this year for those of you going there.

I finally got out for awhile yesterday. Son invited me to dinner, ham pot pie. Yummy. He asked me to bring his dad’s pasta maker and he made homemade noddles for it. Ah, the tradition continues! My boys grew up helping make pasta with their dad so it warmed my heart to see him continue the tradition. And I told him to keep the pasta maker so I actually purged one more thing from my cupboard so a win-win! Not much else happening around here so think I’ll have another cup of coffee and sit and read awhile. Can’t shower yet so will just have to wait on that! Now if it was warmer and Lola wasn’t winterized I could go out and get water out there! Have a great day!

Monday - 2nd week of January

Postby Colliemom » Mon Jan 08, 2018 8:44 am

Morning. Seems like we were all anticipating the New Years arrival and it’s heading into it’s second week already. At this rate, February wil be here before we know it.

Weather has moderated here and we are heading into upper 20’s to low 30’s this week, but colder air moving in by weeks end again, although doesn’t look like an arctic bladt like before. The dogs and I enjoyed a nice long walk yesterday.

Carolb, that sounds great, you getting on the road again. Barbie, beautiful pictures. I can tell you are in love with CA. Judy, loved your video too. I think it’s funny that everytime we try to get pictures of Bighorn shepp, we wind up with rump shots for the most part. Happened to us in The Canadian Rockies too, when a herd of bighorns came into the parking lot where my Tahoe was parked. We went to take a pic and they all just turned their rumps toward us and kept grazing

Off to town for me today. Few errands to do. Found a range hood vent for over my stove and want to see if my HVAC guys can install it when they come to do the new water softener. Replacing an existing range hood that has a microwave in it, but really too ineffective as far as the fan goes. Sits back behind the front burners. Plus I like my counter level micro better. Might stop by carpet place and get some extimates too, although I don’t know if I want to do that this winter or wait till spring. This is the slow season right now.

Hope you all have a nice day. Excitement building for Q already :) Loks like a nice crowd going to be there.

Good Morning! Great pictures Barbie! The weathermen have promised us a good soaking rain! Hope they aren’t just tormenting us!

Most of my family now have the flu....I am trying to avoid it...

More dental work today....root canal...ugh.

Sue, that video was actually the second one I took. The first was almost entirely "rump shots" and was almost pornographic as they were all adult males!! Nothing like a lineup of rear ends and male "equipment."

And it is actually sprinkling in the desert today. Can't call it real rain, but there are tiny wet dots on the pavement of my campsite and some drips on my windows. Most importantly, it is raining throughout almost all California! And they really need the rain, especially in southern California. Hope they don't get bad erosion in the burned areas. I know in Napa, they had a little rain right after the fires, so they did get some regrowth in the fall that will help with erosion. I also saw when my son drove me around the Atlas Mountain area that they had put a lot of erosion barricades up. They were also doing a massive job in October through December of removing debris from houses and other buildings.

The places in southern CA with fires won't have had time to do that, so we will no doubt hear about landslides and floods. Anyway, I am sure everyone is appreciating the rains.

I don't know if I mentioned this earlier, but I am going to the UK for 6 weeks in the spring and bought my airline ticket quite a while ago. I figured I am relatively healthy and won't be getting any younger, so want to do one last big trip, although Ireland has been calling to me so I might go there in a few years. I'll put my rig in storage for a couple of months, and small hotels and B&Bs are not as expensive over there as they are here. I've been to both England and Scotland before, so I know how to travel inexpensively there. Will rent a car for a month and drive on the wrong side of the road, but I have done that before. (Hardest part of doing that is remembering to get in on the side of the car with the steering wheel. Embarrassing to open door on wrong side and then have to go to other side.) So, I have started out slowly blocking out my trip and making a few reservations.

Good morning gals!
Yep, lots of rain heading this way. There are evacuation orders for the fire damaged areas in case of mud slides in those areas. They are also giving sand bags to people for their yards. Could be several inches of rain between San Diego and Santa Barbara, so it is a big system. They say 100% chance of rain for Tuesday and Wednesday here. Would be better to have smaller amounts over a longer period of time tho.

Am tired today. Will piddle around here with a few things before heading to work later on.

I posted pics of my visit with Catherine in Laguna Beach on yesterdays MC, if you missed it. What a beautiful area and a fun day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I enjoyed England you are brave to drive food in small pubs was wonderful!! Last time I went to Ireland in '06 the traffic was awful!! If I go again I will go with a small group or fly into Dublin and then take a plane or train to west coast and rent a car. I want to go to Donegal.

I will spend a week in London and take some side trips to places like Greenwich. Then will take trail to Windsor and spend three days, and then to Salisbury, where I will pick up a car. Then can drive to Amesbury near Stonehenge for three days and onward north.

One thing I learned about driving in the UK--there are four types of roads that are named accordingly. The freeways are easy to drive on and are one digits, such as the A5. No problem. Next, and most dangerous, are what I call the two-digit roads. These are main two-lane roads that are filled with trucks, buses, and lots of cars. They are high-speed and very busy, so I try to avoid those as much as possible.

I love what I call the three and four-digit roads. These are slower, less traveled, and tend to go through small towns, so are very pleasant and easy to drive on. The four-digit roads are often only one-lane wide, which really makes them fun! If someone comes the opposite direction, you just pull over and stop to let them pass, and the British being very polite, you usually end up both stopping to let the other guy past. And you get a good view of cows and sheep and small farms. Very nice. So, the roads around Stonehenge are three-digit roads (A303), but the one to Stratford-Upon-Avon is a two-digit road, so I will take alternative country roads! Piece of cake and much better country views.

And I will rent the smallest car possible. Last time I was in Scotland about ten years ago, they upgraded me to a big car, and I had to return it after a few days because it was too hard to drive and park!

After a dry spell the roads get built up with oil from the cars so when it finally rains, it gets extremely slippery. I would wait a day or so to be on the safe side.
