Too bad Ford Escorts can't be towed 4 down. They are very affordable and reliable.

How about a motorcycle?

Ideally, I would love to always be in a place where I can ride a motorcycle. Reality...I'm not :( I'm more of a fair weather rider and it has been a lousy winter for riding. If I did buy one, I would have to buy a trailer, too. Then, I would doubt my decision to sell my truck, since I had originally hoped to buy a motorcycle and transport it in the truck. A small scooter type bike wouldn't haul my groceries, which is one of the main reasons I need transportation. Usually, I'm in a location where the distance to shopping warrants shopping for a week or two at a time.

All that being said....I do need a car! Soon!

Look at used Chevy Cavaliers. Mine is a 2004, had low mileage and I got a good deal. lightweight and good mileage. I think 2005 was the last year they made it.

Beth...Obviously, I haven't been on here in awhile  Do you flat tow that? I am hopeful that I finally found something. It's a Honda Fit Sport. Trying to figure out the logistics, as it is in AZ and I'm in TX. Ken is going to go look at it for me and I can do a cashier's check by phone, through my credit union. I'm trying to come up with a little bit more money. I have the money from the sale of my truck, but need $2,000 more. I've never borrowed money from family, but going to try. I will be able to repay half of it from my tax return, then the rest this summer. Wish me luck!

Wishing you luck. And yes I flat tow it. Purchased it because I'm cheap and could get a good price on it. Doing good by me so far! It's also very easy to set up with nothing to do but put the key in the on position and the car in neutral and it's ready.

It is taking a lot of thinking, but I think we've all got it worked out  I may need a big glass of wine when the deal is done  Ken looked at and drove the car for me. He talked to me on the phone and sent pics of the minor blemishes. All in all, I'm getting a good deal. They had already dropped the price and I talked them down some more. Well below KBB, so I'm happy :D Ken is meeting up with them tomorrow. My credit union is going to wire transfer the funds to their account. Hoping that happens quickly, as Ken will be waiting to take the car. They are in Phoenix for the Nascar races and will be doing this before they head back to Yuma. The car already has the base plate, but I'm going to have Ken get a tow bar on Craigslist. Mine is a Blue Ox and we need a Towmaster. Would cost me more to buy the adapter and ship my tow bar than to just buy a used Towmaster tow bar out there. Ken will be leaving AZ April 1st and coming to volunteer with me for a month, so he will just bring it then. For now, a couple of other workampers here are being so nice to take me to get groceries when they go to town :)

good news for sure but you said something that made me wonder if the 'friend' was still in the picture...realize that you were wishing he wasn't but hadn't heard recently or I over looked it...
I'm sure you will enjoy having your own transportation again

Love that! I think I will have to name her.

Sheila...Bob moved on to a gate guard job, so he beat me to the punch  We still keep in touch, but I don't miss his arguing. I'm wanting to find a USACE volunteer job through April. Ken will bring me my car from AZ and join me to volunteer, like last year. We had fun!
