Will try this but during the day. Wouldn’t get to sleep if I had to worry about getting up in the morning. Oatmeal freezes well.

Sounds interesting, Shirl. I do like oatmeal.

I have always just made it in the microwave (no muss, no fuss). Get a bowl, add some oatmeal, a bit of water, microwave for two or three minutes, then yum. :)

Anne, is that how you cook steel cut oats?

Shirl, I don't generally eat the steel cut kind (but have done), I am seeing a lot of references online for "how to" microwave the steel-cut.

But I guess it all depends (like most things): cook 'em however you like 'em. :D

Anne, I like the texture of steel cut. I make batches and freeze individual portions. New recipes are my 80 yr old adventures. Lol

I've gotten so that I prefer steel cut oatmeal... normally make them in the morning for the next day but while I've been here have not thought of doing so... so haven't had it all summer... hopefully will remember tomorrow... for Sunday Breakfast...
if I just remember to do so... and perhaps tomorrow will bake some cookies...
this does sound good though if I could just make myself understand that I can use a crock pot in the trailer

I found the crockpot steel cut oatmeal to be too overcooked for my tastes. I now make it in my instant pot that has a porridge setting. Just made a batch consisting of four servings.

Joan, thanks for the feed back. I won’t bother with slow cooker. I usually do the overnight version but do all day instead. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. :)
