Cook Pasta in 60 Seconds? Anyone tried this?

Cook Pasta in 60 Seconds? Anyone tried this?

Postby mitch5252 » Mon Sep 15, 2014 3:34 pm

..
I just ran across this pasta cooking method. If it works, it's certainly a time and energy saver, both at home and while camping. My question is, is this a 24-hour soak (say 7:00PM until 6:00 dinner the next evening), or can it be put in the water early in the morning and be ready to cook that same evening.

Anyone ever tried this?
I just put a handful of rotini in some water...

There are some pastas that we would use for pasta salad that we would soak overnight in the fridge but it was made to be soaked. Colored pastas seemed to tolerate this better.

We would precook pasta for use later. You would cook it to 1 min from done and then put in an ice bath to stop the cooking process. We would then portion and bag the servings and refrigerate until needed. When an order came in we would put it in hot water (in the steam table) using a silverware basket as a strainer. After one minute you'd pull, plate and sauce the order.

Pasta doesn't take that long to cook anyways, so it seems like a lot more work and prep time to do it this way. I have a Fasta Pasta thingy that cooks it in the microwave in a few minutes and it works perfect! No pans, no boiling water, etc.

UPDATE: tried it yesterday with medium shells. ACKACKACK. The rigatoni was okay; the shells were awful.

I am giving this method a big THUMBS DOWN.

Thanks for the update, Mitch. Guess I'll stick to old method.

Fasta Pasta...just sayin'! :D

http://www.fastapastacooker.com/cooking-instructions/

I just bought a new product called Reames Presto Pasta. There are 4 single serve pouches in the bag (frozen). You just put one pouch in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. It comes in rotini, penne, and whole grain penne. Just add whatever sauce you want. Haven't tried it yet, but will let you know how it turns out.

Barbie, I love my Fasta Pasta, also.

I tried the single serve Presto Pasta (rotini) today for lunch. Just 3 minutes in the microwave. It turned out good, and I just put some beef gravy over it and that made a decent lunch. (Next time I will add some sour cream to the gravy for a stroganoff flavor). Tomorrow, I might make macaroni and cheese with it. I have some alfredo sauce I will try one day, too. Lots of options!
