Questions about Quartzsite, AZ

It will be around the end of November first of December so will probably be crowded there.
About camping on the BLM land - do you need a permit? Can you stop any where or just designated places? Do the other people in a desert spot welcome strangers or is there a protocol to follow? Any info will be much appreciated.
